Discover Brazil's Wild Wonderland

The above is amateur video of fish jumping up the small waterfall at Cachoeira das Palmeiras near Coxim. This occurs each year during the Piracema (spawning) period in the November to February. The fish are headed upriver to their spawning grounds, however, as with the annual Salmon run in Canada and Alaska, predators will often position themselves to take advantage. Sometimes jacaré can be seen gathering near the top of the rapids their mouths open - just waiting for a hapless fish to jump in.
